Classic or VIP? When comparing Palestinian Medjoul dates at Themar Al Alia, look at two separate details: the skin-separation specification and the pack weight. A 5 kg box is a larger quantity, not automatically a different grade. This guide puts the three options side by side.
Compare the three Medjoul packs
| Product | Skin-separation specification | Pack weight |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Palestinian Medjoul | 20% | 1 kg |
| Classic Palestinian Medjoul | 20% | 5 kg |
| VIP Palestinian Medjoul | No more than 5% | 1 kg |
These figures come from the individual product specifications in our store. All three options are Palestinian Medjoul. The current product page is the reference for availability, price and the pack you select.
What do 20% and 5% mean?
The percentage describes the skin-separation specification. It does not describe sugar content or measure sweetness. The VIP product lists a lower skin-separation specification than Classic. Use that distinction when comparing presentation; the label alone is not a reason to assume a particular nutritional difference.
Our product descriptions describe a caramel-like flavour for both grades. They do not give a measured sweetness comparison between them. If appearance is a priority for your serving platter, compare the VIP specification; if you want the Classic grade, choose the amount you need.
Classic 1 kg or Classic 5 kg?
Both Classic packs list the same 20% skin-separation specification. The practical difference is quantity. The 1 kg pack can suit trying the variety or combining it with other dates. The 5 kg pack gives you more of the Classic grade for sharing and regular serving.
Choose a quantity that fits your needs and storage space. Follow the storage instructions and expiry date on the pack. For wider advice on choosing and keeping dates, see our dates buying and storage guide.
Compare prices fairly
To compare pack sizes, divide the current pack price by its weight in kilograms. A 5 kg box price divided by five gives the price per kilogram; a 1 kg pack price already represents one kilogram. Compare Classic with Classic first, then consider whether the different VIP specification matters to you. Check current prices on the product pages rather than assuming a larger pack is always cheaper per kilogram.
A simple choice for your table
- For a smaller amount of the Classic grade: compare Classic 1 kg.
- For more of the same Classic grade: compare Classic 5 kg.
- For the lower skin-separation specification: compare VIP 1 kg.
